The Story of Spider-Man 3
Peter's New Challenges
The movie starts a few months after the events of Spider-Man 2. Peter Parker is planning to ask Mary Jane Watson to marry him. Mary Jane has just started her career as a singer on Broadway. One night, a meteorite crashes in Central Park. An alien goo, called a symbiote, comes from the meteorite. It secretly follows Peter back to his apartment.
Meanwhile, Harry Osborn, Peter's former friend, is still angry about his father's death. He thinks Spider-Man is responsible. Harry uses his father's Green Goblin gear to attack Peter. They have a big fight, and Harry crashes. He loses some of his memory and forgets that Peter is Spider-Man.
The Sandman Appears
At the same time, a man named Flint Marko escapes from prison. He wants to see his sick daughter. While running away, he falls into a science experiment called a particle accelerator. This accident turns his body into sand. He becomes the Sandman, a villain who can control sand and change his shape.
During a celebration for Spider-Man, Peter kisses Gwen Stacy, a girl he saved. This makes Mary Jane very upset. Later, Marko robs an armored truck. Peter tries to stop him, but Marko is too strong and gets away.
The Black Suit's Influence
Police Captain George Stacy, Gwen's father, tells Peter and his Aunt May that Marko was actually involved in Uncle Ben's death. Peter is shocked. That night, while Peter sleeps in his Spider-Man suit, the alien symbiote attaches to him. Peter wakes up on top of a building and finds his suit has turned black. His powers are even stronger, but the suit also makes him feel angry and mean.
Peter finds Marko in a subway tunnel. He discovers that water hurts Marko. Peter opens a pipe, and the water turns Marko into mud, washing him away.
Peter's Dark Side and Harry's Return
Peter's new, dark personality starts to push Mary Jane away. Her shows are getting bad reviews, and she feels sad. She shares a moment with Harry, who is still suffering from memory loss. Harry's father's ghost seems to tell him to get revenge. Harry then tricks Mary Jane into breaking up with Peter.
Mary Jane tells Peter she loves "someone else." Harry then tells Peter that he is that person. Peter gets very angry and tells Harry that his father never loved him. They fight again. Peter accidentally hurts Harry's face with a pumpkin bomb.
Venom is Born
At the Daily Bugle newspaper, Peter exposes another photographer, Eddie Brock. Eddie had used fake pictures to make Spider-Man look bad. The boss, J. Jonah Jameson, fires Eddie and hires Peter.
Later, Peter takes Gwen to a jazz club where Mary Jane is now working. Peter dances with Gwen in a very showy way to make Mary Jane jealous. Gwen realizes what Peter is doing and leaves. Peter then gets into a fight with the bouncers and accidentally hits Mary Jane. He finally realizes that the black suit is making him a bad person.
Peter goes to a church bell tower. He realizes that loud, high-pitched sounds hurt the symbiote. He struggles and finally removes the black suit. The symbiote then falls and attaches to Eddie Brock, who is also in the church. The symbiote turns Eddie into the powerful villain, Venom. Eddie finds Marko, who survived being washed away, and they team up to defeat Spider-Man.
The Final Battle
Eddie Brock kidnaps Mary Jane and traps her high up on a construction site. Marko fights the police to keep them away. Peter asks Harry for help, but Harry refuses. However, Harry's butler tells him the truth about his father's death, which changes Harry's mind.
Peter fights both Eddie and Marko. Harry arrives to help Peter, using his Green Goblin equipment. Harry saves Mary Jane. Eddie tries to stab Peter with Harry's glider, but Harry jumps in the way and gets hurt instead. Peter remembers the symbiote's weakness. He uses metal pipes to create a loud, sonic attack, which weakens Venom. Peter separates Eddie from the symbiote. He then throws a pumpkin bomb at the symbiote. Eddie, who had become addicted to the symbiote's power, tries to save it. He is destroyed along with the symbiote.
After the fight, Marko explains that Uncle Ben's death was an accident. He says it has haunted him ever since. Peter forgives Marko, and Marko leaves. Harry and Peter make up before Harry dies from his injuries. Later, after Harry's funeral, Peter and Mary Jane get back together and share a dance at the jazz club.
What Happened Next
A fourth Spider-Man movie was planned, but it was canceled. The director, Sam Raimi, and the producers had different ideas for the story. Because of this, the Spider-Man film series was restarted twice.
- The first restart was The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), starring Andrew Garfield.
- The second restart was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), starring Tom Holland.
A movie about Venom was also planned a long time ago. It was finally made in 2018, called Venom, starring Tom Hardy.
