Tobias Vincent Maguire, born on June 27, 1975, is an American actor and film producer. He is famous for playing Spider-Man in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies from 2002 to 2007. He even played Spider-Man again in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
Tobey Maguire started his acting career with smaller roles. His big break came when he played Spider-Man in the 2002 film. He continued this role in the sequels, Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). He also acted in serious movies like Seabiscuit (2003) and The Great Gatsby (2013). Tobey also became a film producer, helping to make movies like 25th Hour (2002).
He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role in the movie Brothers (2009). In 2012, he started his own company called Material Pictures. Through this company, he helped produce films such as Good People (2012), Pawn Sacrifice (2014), and Babylon (2022).

Tobias Vincent Maguire was born on June 27, 1975, in Santa Monica, California. His parents were young when he was born and separated when he was two years old. Tobey often moved around and lived with different family members during his childhood.
When he was a kid, Tobey thought about becoming a chef. But in sixth grade, his mom offered him $100 to take a drama class instead. He agreed, and that's how he started acting. He left high school early to focus on his acting career.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting Out (1989–1995)

Tobey Maguire's first movie appearance was as an extra in The Wizard (1989). In 1992, he got a main role in the TV show Great Scott!, but it only lasted nine weeks.
He became good friends with fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio when they were young. They often auditioned for the same roles. For example, DiCaprio got the main part in the 1993 movie This Boy's Life, and Tobey got a smaller role as one of his friends.
Becoming Well-Known (1995–2001)
Tobey Maguire started to choose different types of roles. This helped him get the part of Paul Hood in Ang Lee's 1997 film The Ice Storm. This led to many main roles in movies like Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, and Wonder Boys.
In the 1998 movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, he played a hitchhiker. In Ride with the Devil (1999), he played Jakob Roedel. Tobey also voiced the character Lou in the movie Cats & Dogs (2001).
Spider-Man and Becoming a Star (2002–2013)

In 2002, Maguire starred in Spider-Man, based on the Marvel Comics superhero. The movie was a huge hit and made him a big star. He played Spider-Man again in Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). He also voiced Spider-Man in the video games based on these movies.
Many people praised his acting as Spider-Man. Mark Caro from the Chicago Tribune said that Tobey's "big, round, soulful eyes" helped him show a sense of wonder. A planned fourth Spider-Man movie did not happen. Instead, Sony's Columbia Pictures decided to restart the series with a new actor, Andrew Garfield, in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).
Maguire also played the jockey John M. "Red" Pollard in Seabiscuit (2003), a movie about the famous racehorse Seabiscuit. In 2006, he played a different kind of role as Corporal Patrick Tully in Steven Soderbergh's The Good German.
Tobey Maguire is also a producer. He helped produce movies like 25th Hour (2002) and Seabiscuit (2003). In 2008, he had a small role in the movie Tropic Thunder. He played a monk in a fake movie trailer shown within Tropic Thunder.

His next movie, Pawn Sacrifice (2014), was also co-produced by Material Pictures. It was a thriller based on the true story of American chess player Bobby Fischer, played by Maguire. The movie showed the events leading up to the 1972 world chess championship.
Maguire voiced the adult Tim Templeton in the animated movie The Boss Baby (2017). He also returned to his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). In this movie, he appeared alongside other Spider-Man actors, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. He also appeared in Damien Chazelle's movie Babylon (2022), and was an executive producer for it. He also appeared as Spider-Man through old footage in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Personal Life
Tobey Maguire has been a vegetarian since 1992, and became a vegan in 2009. He has changed his diet to gain or lose weight for movie roles. For example, he ate much less for Seabiscuit and then quickly gained weight back for Spider-Man 2.
Maguire met jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer in 2003. They got engaged in April 2006, and their daughter was born later that year. They married on September 3, 2007, in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Their second child, a son, was born in May 2009. In October 2016, they announced their separation, and Meyer filed for divorce in 2020.
Hobbies
In 2004, Maguire started playing tournament poker. He has won money in several events and has been taught by professional poker player Daniel Negreanu. Maguire was seen on ESPN's coverage of the World Series of Poker in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He played in high-stakes poker games with other celebrities in the mid-2000s.
