Early Life and Background
Christopher John Grace was born in New York City on July 12, 1978. His mother, Pat, worked as an assistant at a school. His father, John Grace, was an executive in advertising. Topher has one sister named Jenny. His family background includes German-Jewish and Irish roots.
He grew up in Darien, Connecticut. While growing up, he was friends with actress Kate Bosworth. Another actress, Chloë Sevigny, sometimes babysat him. She also acted with him in high school plays.
Acting Career Highlights
Topher Grace started his acting career on the TV show That '70s Show in 1998. He played the main character, Eric Forman, for seven seasons. He left the show before its final season but made a short appearance in the very last episode.
He later said that working on That '70s Show was like an "acting boot camp." He learned a lot about acting for TV and in front of a live audience. He felt that everyone on the show became much better actors over the years.
Early Film Roles
In 2000, Grace appeared in the film Traffic. He also had small, uncredited appearances as himself in the movies Ocean's Eleven (2001) and Ocean's Twelve (2004). He joked that he was playing the "worst version" of himself in those movies.
He wanted to be in Ocean's Thirteen but could not. This was because he was busy filming Spider-Man 3 at the time. In 2003, he also acted in the movie Mona Lisa Smile.

Leading Roles and Awards
In 2004, Topher Grace starred in two main roles. These were in the movies Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! and In Good Company. He also appeared in P.S. that same year. For his work in In Good Company and P.S., he won an award for "Breakthrough Performance Actor" from the National Board of Review.
On January 15, 2005, he hosted the TV show Saturday Night Live.

Editing and "Lou's Cafe"
Topher Grace enjoys making his own edited versions of popular movies. He finds this hobby relaxing. He has shared some of his edits online.
In 2012, he edited the Star Wars prequel trilogy into one 85-minute movie. He called it Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back. He showed it to a few special audiences.
In 2014, he made a special cut of the movie Boogie .... This edit focused on a fake movie within that film.
In 2018, he created his own edit of The Hobbit movies. He believed that The Hobbit story would work better as one movie instead of three. He did this editing to relax while playing a serious role in BlacKkKlansman.
In 2019, Grace and another editor, Jeff Yorkes, started a Twitter account for their editing work. They use the name "Lou's Cafe," which is a diner from the movie Back to the Future. That same year, Pixar asked them to edit a video about Toy Story 4. It was called "Toy Story 4 Ever" and was put on Pixar's YouTube channel.
