Bryce Dallas Howard (born March 2, 1981) is an American actress and director. She is the oldest child of famous filmmaker Ron Howard. Bryce studied acting at New York University.
She became well-known for her roles in movies like The Village (2004) and Lady in the Water (2006). She also played Gwen Stacy in the superhero film Spider-Man 3 (2007). Later, she appeared in Terminator Salvation (2009) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010). Bryce also starred in the popular movies The Help (2011) and Pete's Dragon (2016). She gained even more fame as Claire Dearing in the very successful Jurassic World movies (2015–2022).
Besides acting, Bryce has also directed films and TV shows. She directed the documentary film Dads (2019). She also directed episodes of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2019–present) and The Book of Boba Fett (2022).

About Bryce's Early Life and School
Bryce Dallas Howard was born on March 2, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. Her mother is writer Cheryl Howard, and her father is actor and director Ron Howard. She has two younger sisters, Jocelyn and Paige, and a younger brother named Reed. Her grandparents, Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard, were also actors. Her uncle, Clint Howard, is an actor too.
Bryce grew up in Westchester County, New York, and on a farm in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her parents wanted her and her siblings to enjoy outdoor activities and hobbies. They did not let them watch much television. When she was seven, she was allowed to be an extra in her father's movies. She even mentioned that family friend Tom Cruise sometimes babysat her and her siblings!
Bryce started acting training at Stagedoor Manor, a performing arts camp. She went to Greenwich Country Day School and then graduated from Byram Hills High School in 1999. After high school, she studied at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She took a break from college to act in movies but later went back and finished her degree in 2020.
Bryce's Career in Acting and Directing
Starting Out: Early Roles and Movie Success (2002–2006)
For several years, Bryce acted in plays in New York City. In 2003, she performed in a play called As You Like It. The director M. Night Shyamalan saw her and chose her for his movie The Village (2004). In this fantasy thriller, Bryce played Ivy, a blind girl. The movie was a big hit, and critics praised her acting.
She then worked with Shyamalan again in Lady in the Water (2006). In this fantasy drama, she played Story, a magical being. That same year, she also acted in a film version of As You Like It, which earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Bryce also directed her first short film called Orchids.
Becoming Famous: Big Roles and Acclaim (2007–2014)

In 2007, Bryce starred in her first huge movie, Spider-Man 3. She played Gwen Stacy, a character from the comic books. Bryce was a big fan of the Spider-Man movies and even dyed her hair blonde for the role. She did many of her own stunts, not knowing she was pregnant at the time! This movie was the highest-earning film in the Spider-Man trilogy.
She then appeared in Terminator Salvation (2009) as Kate Connor. The movie was a financial success. Bryce also joined The Twilight series in its third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010). She played Victoria Sutherland, a vampire seeking revenge. This movie was a huge box office hit, and critics liked Bryce's performance.
In 2010, Bryce was in Clint Eastwood's movie Hereafter. In 2011, she starred in The Help, playing Hilly Holbrook, a mean socialite. This movie was a big success with both critics and audiences. Bryce received many awards and nominations for her role, including a Critics' Choice Movie Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award with the rest of the cast.
She also produced the movie Restless (2011) with her father. In the comedy-drama 50/50 (2011), she played the girlfriend of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character. Bryce also directed a short film called When You Find Me.
Becoming a Mainstream Star and Expanding Her Work (2015–Present)
In 2015, Bryce starred with Chris Pratt in the science fiction action movie Jurassic World. This was the fourth movie in the Jurassic Park series. She played Claire Dearing, the park's operations manager. Bryce even did special exercises to run in high heels through mud for the movie! Jurassic World was a huge success, and people loved Bryce's acting and her chemistry with Chris Pratt.
In 2016, Bryce starred in Pete's Dragon, a remake of an older film. It was also a success. That same year, she appeared in an episode of the Netflix science fiction series Black Mirror called "Nosedive". She gained weight for the role because body image was an important part of the story. Both Bryce and the episode received great reviews, and she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Bryce played Claire Dearing again in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018). In this movie, her character became a dinosaur-rights activist. The film was a big hit. In 2019, she voiced the character Bella in the movie A Dog's Way Home. She also played Elton John's mother, Sheila Dwight, in the musical movie Rocketman (2019). Rocketman was a box-office success and received good reviews.
Bryce made her first full-length movie as a director with the documentary Dads (2019). It was praised by critics. She also directed three episodes of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2019–2023), which is part of the Star Wars universe. Her directing for these episodes was very well received. She also directed an episode of The Book of Boba Fett in 2022.
Bryce returned as Claire Dearing one last time in Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which was the final movie in the Jurassic World trilogy. In 2024, she starred in the action comedy film Argylle. She also directed an episode of the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
Bryce is set to star in an upcoming comedy film called Deep Cover.
Bryce's Personal Life
Bryce Dallas Howard met actor Seth Gabel at New York University. They dated for five years and got married on June 17, 2006. They had their first child, a son, in 2007. The couple had a second child, a daughter, in 2012. The family lives in upstate New York.
