Xavier Samuel (born December 10, 1983) is an Australian actor who works in films and theatre. He has played important roles in movies like Adore, September, The Loved Ones, and A Few Best Men. Many people know him for playing Riley Biers in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. He also appeared as Cass Chaplin in the movie Blonde.

Early Life and Education
Xavier Samuel was born in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia. His parents are Maree and Clifford Samuel. He grew up in Adelaide, South Australia. He finished high school at Rostrevor College in 2001. When he was 13, his family lived in Darwin for a year because his parents were teachers there.
Xavier has a younger brother named Benedict, who is also an actor, writer, and producer. He also has an older sister, Bridget, who works as a stage manager.
Even though he went to Rostrevor College, Xavier took his final drama classes at Christian Brothers College. There, he acted in plays like Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Rover.
After high school, Samuel studied acting at Flinders University Drama Centre. He graduated from there in 2006.
Acting Career Highlights
Xavier Samuel started his acting career on the Australian TV show McLeod's Daughters in 2003. He then appeared in the Australian horror movie Road Train as a character named Marcus. He also acted in a short Australian film called Drowning.
In 2007, Samuel starred with Mia Wasikowska in the Australian film September. This movie is set in 1968 and is about two young boys who love boxing and are good friends.
In 2008, Xavier was in the Australian surfing movie Newcastle. He acted alongside Reshad Strik in this film.
Breakthrough Role in Twilight
A big moment in Samuel's career came in early 2010. He was chosen to play Riley Biers in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. This was his first major role in a big Hollywood movie. For this role, he was nominated for and won his first film award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
In an interview, Samuel explained how he got the role in Twilight. He sent an audition tape from Sydney, and it was picked from many others. He felt it was "unusual" and "wonderful" to get the part.

In 2011, Samuel played Henry Wriothesley in the film Anonymous.
In 2012, he had a main role in A Few Best Men, a movie about a wedding. He acted with stars like Rebel Wilson and Olivia Newton-John. He played the same character again in the sequel, A Few Less Men, which came out in 2017.
Samuel also appeared in the 3D movie Bait, which was released in September 2012.
In 2013, he played Ian in Adore with Robin Wright and Naomi Watts. This film explores complex relationships between friends and family. It was filmed in Seal Rocks in New South Wales.

When he was a child, Xavier Samuel dreamed of becoming an Australian rules football star, just like his hero Tony Modra. He is a big fan of the Adelaide Football Club.
