The National Emblem of Afghanistan.

The Coat of arms of Afghanistan is an important national symbol. It has appeared on the Flag of Afghanistan for a long time. This symbol helps represent the country's identity.

A Symbol Through Time

The coat of arms has been part of Afghanistan's flag for many years. However, it was not always present. For example, in the 1980s, a different government ruled the nation. During that time, the coat of arms was not used. Also, in the late 1990s, another group called the Taliban governed. They also did not use the traditional coat of arms.

What the Emblem Shows

The most recent version of the coat of arms has special features. At the very top, you can see an inscription. This is the shahadah, which is an important Islamic declaration of faith. It is written in Arabic.

Below this writing is a picture of a mosque. A mosque is a place where Muslims pray. Inside the mosque, there is a mehrab. This is a special niche or arch that shows the direction of Mecca. Mecca is a holy city for Muslims. You can also see a prayer mat inside the mosque.

Two flags are attached to the mosque. These flags represent the national flags of Afghanistan. Beneath the mosque, there is writing that states the name of the nation. A beautiful garland surrounds the mosque. This garland is white.
