Emilio García Riera (born November 17, 1931, in Ibiza, Spain – died October 11, 2002, in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico) was a talented actor, writer, and movie critic. He wrote many books about Mexican movies made between 1929 and 1976. His most famous work is an eighteen-volume collection called Historia documental del cine mexicano, which means "Documentary History of Mexican Cinema."
A Journey to Mexico
Emilio García Riera was born in Spain. After the Spanish Civil War ended, his family had to leave their home. First, they moved to France. Then, they went to the Dominican Republic, where his father sadly passed away. In 1944, Emilio arrived in Mexico. This country became his new home, and he loved it very much.
Working in Cinema and Education
Emilio García Riera dedicated his life to movies and teaching. He worked at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which is a very famous university.
