Emilio Pujol Vilarrubí (born September 10, 1886 – died November 21, 1980) was a famous Spanish musician. He was a talented composer, a skilled guitarist, and an important teacher of the classical guitar.

Emilio Pujol's Life Story

Emilio Pujol was born in a small village called Granadella in Spain. When he was 16, in 1902, he started learning music from a famous guitar teacher named Francisco Tárrega. Emilio really looked up to Tárrega and wrote about him with great admiration.

During the years 1914–1918, he mostly stayed in Catalonia, Spain. In 1918, he went on his first big tour, performing in South America, starting in Buenos Aires. He traveled a lot for concerts.

Emilio also spent time in Paris, France, researching old musical instruments that came before the guitar. He worked with a publisher named Max Eschig to create a collection of old and new guitar music. World War II starting also stopped him from touring as much.

From 1935 to 1940, Pujol continued to give concerts and talks. He also kept up his research in Spain, London, and Paris. By 1941, he was back in Spain for good. He started working on a big project to publish old Spanish music. This included music by composers like Luis de Narváez and Alonso Mudarra.

In 1946, Pujol began teaching guitar classes at the Lisbon Conservatory of Music. He taught there until 1969. During this time, he also gave special master classes and judged guitar competitions.

Starting in 1965, Pujol began his International Courses of Guitar, Lute, and Vihuela in Lleida, Spain. These summer courses became very popular. Students and teachers from all over the world came to learn from him. The courses ran for ten years and later moved to the village of Cervera.

Emilio Pujol believed in preparing for every part of a musical performance. He thought about the instrument, the musician's hands, and their feelings. This helped him teach and perform music beautifully.
