Emily Theresa Russell, Baroness Ampthill (born September 9, 1843 – died February 22, 1927) was an important person in the British royal court. She served Queen Victoria and was known for her connections to noble families.
Early Life and Family
Emily Theresa Villiers was born into a very important family. Her father was George Villiers, 4th Earl of Clarendon. An Earl is a high-ranking noble title in the United Kingdom. Emily was the third daughter in her family.
In 1863, Emily had a special role. She was a bridesmaid for Princess Alexandra of Denmark. Princess Alexandra was marrying Edward, Prince of Wales. He later became King Edward VII.
Marriage and Children
On May 5, 1868, Emily Theresa Villiers married Odo Russell. Their wedding took place in Watford. Odo Russell was also from a well-known family.
Emily and Odo had six children together:

Life as a Baroness
In 1881, Emily's husband, Odo, received a special title. He became the first Baron Ampthill. This meant Emily became Baroness Ampthill. A Baron is a title of nobility, ranking below a Viscount.
In 1885, Baroness Ampthill began working for Queen Victoria. She became a Lady of the Bedchamber. This was an important position. It meant she was a close attendant to the Queen. She helped the Queen with daily tasks and was a trusted companion.
For her dedicated service, Emily was given a special award. She was appointed to the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert. This was an honor given by the Queen herself. It recognized women who had served the royal family well.
Royal Events
Baroness Ampthill often attended important royal events. In 1897, she was a guest at a grand party. This party was the Duchess of Devonshire’s Diamond Jubilee Costume Ball. It celebrated Queen Victoria's 60 years on the throne.
