A Look Back at Emison's History
Emison was first planned out in 1867. It was named after Samuel A. Emison, who helped create the community. For many years, Emison had its own post office. However, this post office closed down in 1994.
Where is Emison Located?
Emison is found in the northwestern part of Knox County. You can find its exact spot using coordinates: 38 degrees, 48 minutes, 18 seconds North and 87 degrees, 27 minutes, 29 seconds West.
Major roads pass near Emison. U.S. Routes 41 and 150 are four-lane highways that run along the east side of the community. These roads can take you about 10 miles (16 km) south to Vincennes, which is the main city of the county. If you go north, these roads lead about 48 miles (77 km) to Terre Haute. Another road, Indiana State Road 550, goes southeast from Emison about 4 miles (6 km) to Bruceville.
The total area of the Emison CDP is about 1.58 square miles (4.1 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.02 square kilometers), is water.
