History of Bruceville
Bruceville got its name from the Bruce family. William Bruce settled in this area in 1805. He was born in 1776 and passed away in 1853.
William Bruce was a leader of the local militia. A militia is a group of citizens who act as soldiers. He led them during a conflict called Tecumseh's War in 1811. The streets of Bruceville were officially planned out in 1829.
A famous person, Abraham Lincoln, visited Bruceville in October 1844. He gave a speech there. He spoke in support of Henry Clay, who was an important American politician at the time.
