Emmetten was first mentioned in old writings around the year 1160. Back then, it was known by the name Empnoten. This shows that people have lived in this area for a very long time.

This village is found along a main road that connects Beckenried and Seelisberg. It sits on both sides of a pass called the Egg, which is right by Lake Lucerne.
