Emotes are cool characters created by Helen Lau. You can find them in picture books, comics, and even as designer toys. Each Emote character shows a different emotion, like happy, sad, or angry. They are made to help kids like you learn about feelings. Playing with Emotes can help you understand and show your own emotions in a fun way.

How Emotes Began

Imagine all the feelings from everyone using the internet. All those emotions mixed together and made a super-powerful energy! This energy then split into many parts. Each part became a special being, an Emote, showing a different feeling.

Meet the Emotes Characters

There are 12 main Emotes characters. Each one represents a different emotion and has a special superpower!

Boom: The Angry Emote

  • Boom is always angry. He wakes up grumpy and stays grumpy all day.
  • Boom can get mad very quickly. His friend Bubba often helps him feel happier.
  • Superpower: Flamethrower.

Super: The Confident Emote

  • Super is super confident. He believes in himself and knows he can do anything.
  • Super loves to explore and learn new things. He helps his friends feel confident too.
  • Superpower: Glows a blinding ray.

Bubba: The Happy Emote

  • Bubba is always happy. Everything makes Bubba joyful.
  • Bubba spreads happiness to his friends with big smiles and kind actions.
  • Superpower: High-pitched, very loud laughter.

Imp: The Mischievous Emote

  • Imp loves jokes and pranks. He enjoys making his friends laugh, even if it's a bit embarrassing.
  • Imp often hides and giggles at his own tricks. He reminds everyone it's okay to laugh at yourself.
  • Superpower: Changes size.

Jumpi: The Scared Emote

  • Jumpi is scared of almost everything, even his own shadow!
  • Loud noises and sudden movements make him jump. His friend Drain helps him relax.
  • Superpower: Electrical force field.

Joi: The Excited Emote

  • Joi is always excited. He sees the good side of every situation.
  • Joi smiles, laughs, and spreads cheer. He helps his friends think positive thoughts.
  • Superpower: Gymnastic cartwheels.

Drain: The Tired Emote

  • Drain is very tired and moves slowly. He needs energy every day.
  • Drain often relies on his friend Joi to help him get through the day.
  • Superpower: Power Yawn.

Ick: The Disgusted Emote

  • Ick is disgusted with many things. He grunts and frowns when he's unhappy.
  • Ick depends on his friend Joi to help him see the brighter side of things.
  • Superpower: Cloud forming powers.

Mixy: The Confused Emote

  • Mixy is often confused. He sometimes does things twice because he's not sure if he did them already.
  • Mixy asks many questions to understand things. He helps his friends see all sides of a situation.
  • Superpower: Changes color and blends into any background.

Abash: The Embarrassed Emote

  • Abash gets easily embarrassed, especially with new people or places.
  • When embarrassed, he might hide until he feels brave again. His friend Super helps him build confidence.
  • Superpower: Becomes invisible.

Yawni: The Bored Emote

  • Yawni gets bored easily with everyday life. He's always looking for new adventures.
  • Yawni is very smart and quickly masters new tasks, but then gets bored again. His friend Mixy helps make things interesting.
  • Superpower: Melts and becomes a liquid.

Cant: The Frustrated Emote

  • Cant gets frustrated when things don't go his way.
  • He is capable of great things but sometimes gives up too soon. His friends Super and Bubba help him be more patient.
  • Superpower: Pulls his ears to change shape into a fast-moving pinball.

Emotes Books

There are twelve Emotes books. They are made to help children understand and talk about their feelings. These books deal with everyday issues like dealing with bullies, temper tantrums, or healthy habits. Each book tells a story about a specific problem and solves it in a fun, easy-to-understand way.

Four Emotes picture books were released in 2008 by Diamond Comics. They were written by Matt Casper, MFT, and Ted Dorsey.

Emotes for Play Therapy

Emotes toys are designed to help kids see and understand their own emotions. When children see all the characters, they often pick the Emote that best matches how they feel. These toys are used in therapy to help children learn about emotions. They include small 2.5-inch vinyl figures and soft 10-inch plush dolls.
