A Look Back at Empire City's History
Empire City began in the late 1910s. It was an "oil-boom town," meaning it grew very quickly because people found a lot of oil nearby. Many people moved there to work in the oil fields. At its busiest time, about 3,000 people lived in Empire City.
The town even had its own post office, which opened in February 1921. But the oil boom didn't last forever. As the oil ran out, many people moved away. By 1980, the town's population had shrunk to only 13 people! The post office closed in December 1934.
However, Empire City started to grow again in the mid-1980s. Even though it doesn't have its own post office anymore, more people have chosen to live there.
