The Empowerment sculpture is a large and interesting piece of art. You can find it right in the middle of Lincoln, a city in England. It's a public sculpture, which means it's for everyone to see and enjoy!

The Empowerment Sculpture

This amazing sculpture was finished in 2002. It was designed by a talented artist named Stephen Broadbent. A company called Alstom Power (now known as Siemens) helped pay for it.

What Does Empowerment Mean?

The sculpture is called Empowerment. This word means giving someone the power or confidence to do something. The artwork shows two human-like figures. They are made from shiny aluminium and strong steel. These figures are reaching out to each other across the River Witham. This river flows through Lincoln's City Square.

The way the figures are shaped is special. They look a bit like the blades inside a turbine. This design reminds us of Lincoln's history. The city has a long past of making important industrial machines.

How Big Is This Sculpture?

Empowerment is very tall! It stands 16 metres high. That's about the height of four double-decker buses stacked on top of each other! It is the biggest sculpture in all of Lincolnshire.

Why Is It Important to Lincoln?

Over time, Empowerment has become a famous symbol of Lincoln. People often use pictures of it to represent the city. It's now as well-known as the historic cathedral and castle.

Just like the Angel of the North is a symbol for North East England, Empowerment is becoming a key tourist emblem for Lincoln. It helps people recognise and remember the city.
