Alexander Emsley Nimmo, born on February 28, 1953, is a Scottish priest and historian. He has been the Rector of St Margaret of Scotland, Aberdeen since 1990. He also served as the Dean of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney from 2008 to 2017.

Early Life and Education
Nimmo was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He went to the University of Aberdeen to study divinity. He earned his Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree in 1976. After that, he trained to become a priest at Edinburgh Theological College from 1976 to 1978.
Continuing His Studies
Emsley Nimmo continued his education even after becoming a priest. He studied at the University of Edinburgh. In 1983, he earned a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree. His master's project was about a bishop named Charles Wordsworth. Later, he did more research at the University of Aberdeen. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in 1997. His doctoral project was about Bishop John Skinner and the return of Scottish Episcopacy.
Becoming a Priest
Emsley Nimmo was ordained in the Scottish Episcopal Church. He became a deacon in 1978 and a priest in 1979. These services took place at Inverness Cathedral. George Sessford was the bishop who ordained him.
Early Roles in the Church
From 1978 to 1981, he worked at Inverness Cathedral. He then moved to St Peter's Church in Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis. He was a priest there from 1981 to 1984. After that, he moved to Edinburgh. He became the rector of St Michael and All Saints Church. He also worked as a chaplain at HM Prison Edinburgh from 1987 to 1990.
Work in Aberdeen and Orkney
In 1990, Nimmo moved to the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. He became the rector of St Margaret of Scotland Church in Aberdeen. He has also been a chaplain at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen since 1990. From 2004 to 2007, he was a visiting chaplain at HM Prison Peterhead.
In 1996, he was made a Canon of St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen. He also became an honorary canon of Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. On April 21, 2008, he became the Dean of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. He held this important role along with his other church duties. He resigned as dean in November 2017.
Awards and Recognition
In 1993, Emsley Nimmo was chosen as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (FSA Scot). This means he is recognized for his knowledge of history and old things in Scotland. From 2011 to 2012, he was the Chairman of the 1745 Association.
