Enders is a small community located in Chase County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's called a 'census-designated place' because it's a recognized area for counting people, even though it doesn't have its own city government. In 2010, about 42 people lived there. Enders has its own post office with the ZIP code 69027.

History of Enders

Enders was first started in 1890. Interestingly, it wasn't always in the exact spot it is today. The original village was about 2 miles to the east. It was moved to its current location to be closer to a new railroad line that was being built towards Imperial.

The Enders post office opened on August 26, 1890. William A. Reid was the first postmaster. It closed for a few years but reopened in 1907 with George W. Brown in charge. The community was named after Peter Enders, who was an important local rancher.

Enders was one of the first places in western Nebraska to get electricity! An early dam and power generator were built on Frenchman Creek, south of the village. This system provided power to the area. However, this original power dam was later covered by water when the much larger Enders Dam was finished in 1951.

Geography and Nature Around Enders

Enders is located along U.S. Route 6 and Nebraska Highway 61. It's about 9 miles southeast of Imperial, which is the main town and county seat of Chase County.

The community sits on the north side of the beautiful Enders Reservoir. This reservoir was created when the Enders Dam was built between 1947 and 1951. The dam was constructed on Frenchman Creek as part of a big project to manage water in the Missouri River Basin.

Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area is a very popular spot for outdoor fun. People love to go there for fishing, hunting, and other activities like boating and camping. It's a great place to enjoy nature!
