The Endicott Hotel is a very old and important building in Concord, New Hampshire. You can find it at 1-3 South Main Street. It used to be called Blanchard's Block. This building was finished in 1894. It's special because it's the only building left in New Hampshire designed by the famous Damon Brothers architects. It was also the first big business building on South Main Street. Because of its history, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. This list helps protect important places in the United States.

The Endicott Hotel: A Historic Building

The Endicott Hotel stands out in downtown Concord. It is at the corner of South Main Street and Pleasant Street Extension. This building has four stories and is made of brick. Part of its basement can be seen because the ground slopes.

What Does It Look Like?

One of the coolest parts of the building is its special corner window. This is called an oriel tower. It's a unique design that the Damon Brothers often used. The shops on the ground floor have black tiles. These were added in the 1940s and give the building an Art Deco look. This change is the only big update to the outside of the building.

The main door is set back in the middle of the South Main Street side. Above the door, on the second floor, there is a curved window. On the third floor, there is a balcony with strong supports. The window bay on the far right also has an oriel window. This one sticks out on the second and third floors.

A Look Back in Time

The Endicott Hotel was finished in 1894. It was designed by the Damon Brothers, who were well-known architects in the area. This building was the first large business building in Concord south of Pleasant Street. It was also the first building used only for businesses. Before this, other big buildings often had meeting rooms on their upper floors.

The outside of the building has not changed much over the years. The first owner was George Blanchard. He used the building for shops and offices. In 1908, John Butler Smith bought the building. He turned it into a hotel for people traveling by train. That's when it got its current name, the Endicott Hotel. Later, in 1985, the upper floors were changed into apartments.
