History of Energy Village

How Energy Got Its Name

The area now known as Energy was first called "Fordville." It started in the early 1900s as a stop on the Coal Belt Railway. The village was named after Wiley Ford and his son, William. They planned out the village's streets and lots.

A post office opened in Fordville in 1905. The village officially became a town the next year, in 1906.

Changing the Village Name

In 1909, a man named Herbert Taylor bought the coal mines in the area. He decided to sell his company's coal under the brand name "Energy." In 1913, he convinced the Fordville village council to change the village's name to Energy. The post office also changed its name that same year.
