What Happens at the Centre?

The Energy Events Centre is a very busy place! It hosts many different kinds of events. You might go there for a big sports match, like netball. It's also used for large conferences where people meet to discuss ideas.

Sometimes, there are big exhibitions, which are like large displays or fairs. The centre can also host fancy banquets (big dinners) and exciting concerts with your favourite music artists.

Home of Netball

The main court at the Energy Events Centre is a special home for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic netball team. This team plays in a big competition called the ANZ Championship.

While the Magic team has other places they play, like the Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton and the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in Tauranga, the Rotorua centre is an important place for their games.

How the Centre Was Built

The idea for building the Energy Events Centre came from a person named Peter McLeod. He worked for the Rotorua Lakes Council. He really wanted to create this amazing place for Rotorua. Sadly, Peter McLeod passed away in 2015.

The centre was officially opened in February 2007. Since then, it has been a very important part of Rotorua, bringing many events and visitors to the city.
