History of Enola
Enola got its start because of the railroads. Local farmers, Francis and Wesley Miller, sold a small piece of their land to the Pennsylvania Railroad. This land was used for a train stop. Mr. Miller was given the special chance to name the new train station. He chose to name it "Enola" after his daughter.
At first, Mr. Miller was the only person living in the area. But as more people moved in, the local post office and the growing town also started using the name Enola.
Building the Enola Rail Yard
In 1902, the Pennsylvania Railroad decided to build a huge train yard nearby. This yard, called Enola Yard, officially opened in January 1905. The railroad bought a lot of land, about 743 acres (301 ha), for this big project.
A company called Enola Realty Co. bought 104 acres (42 ha) of this land. This area became known as North Enola. Starting in 1909, the Realty Company built over 220 homes. They rented or sold these homes to families who came to Enola looking for jobs at the new rail yard.
Growth of the Town
South Enola also grew quickly, just like North Enola. Many landowners helped the town expand. West Enola also saw growth because of the busy Enola Yards.

Enola is served by one main high school, East Pennsboro High School. It was built on land that used to be a farm. The original Enola High School building is now home to the East Pennsboro Branch Library. An early elementary school building is now used for several businesses.
