Enough is a fascinating place in Iron County, Missouri. It's what we call a ghost town, which means it used to be a community where people lived, but now it's mostly empty. Enough is located near the start of the Big River. Today, this area is part of the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest, right at the southern end of Council Bluff Lake. This lake was made in 1981, and you can even find a boat ramp there, managed by the Forest Service.
A Town with a Unique Name
How Enough Got Its Name
Enough became an official place when a post office opened there in 1916. It stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1937. The story behind the town's name is quite funny! The local postmaster, who was in charge of the post office, kept sending in lots and lots of ideas for names for the community. He must have been very creative!
However, the postal officials in charge of approving names eventually told him that his "hundreds of naming suggestions were enough." And that's how the community got its unusual name!
