The Los Fundadores Bridge is a special kind of bridge called a cable-stayed bridge. It's in Envigado, Colombia. People also call it the Peldar Bridge because of where it is. This bridge helps cars on Las Vegas Avenue cross over 37th Street.
Building this bridge was a big part of making the neighborhood better. It showed how much the community worked together to improve things. The city wanted a special bridge for Las Vegas Avenue. They wanted it to be a landmark, something people would remember.
About the Los Fundadores Bridge
This bridge has three shorter sections, each about 20.2 meters long. It also has two longer sections held up by cables, measuring 121 meters and 60 meters. These main sections are supported by strong cables. These cables all meet at the top of the main tower, spreading out like a fan. This "fan" design is quite rare for cable-stayed bridges.
The bridge deck is mostly straight. It is about 18.6 meters wide. The deck is a strong concrete box, about 2.4 meters deep. It has three hollow parts inside, like cells. The cables hold up this deck, spaced about 12 meters apart. The deck is also strengthened from the inside with special steel cables.
The main tower is 50 meters tall. It is made of reinforced concrete. The tower is tilted slightly, about 5 degrees. This tilt makes the bridge look more interesting and modern. It helps the bridge stand out as a landmark.
The bridge is in an area of Colombia where earthquakes can happen. So, engineers designed it to be very strong. It can handle ground shaking up to 5 meters per second squared. The total cost to build this amazing bridge was about US$12 million.
Building the Bridge
Work on the Los Fundadores Bridge started in 2001. It was finished successfully in July 2003. When it was built, it was the second largest concrete cable-stayed bridge in all of Colombia.
