Eranuhi Aslamazyan (born April 15, 1910 – died February 4, 1998) was a talented Armenian and Soviet artist. She was known for her paintings and graphic art. Eranuhi was a member of the Artists' Union of the USSR. She was also honored as an Artist of the Armenian SSR.

Who Was Eranuhi Aslamazyan?

Eranuhi Aslamazyan was born in a village called Bash-Shirak. This was in the Russian Empire. Her father, Arshak Aslamazyan, was a well-known miller. In the 1920s, her family faced challenges. Their property was gradually taken by the Soviet authorities.

Her Early Life and Education

Eranuhi began her art studies early. From 1924 to 1926, she went to the Leninakan Painting School. Leninakan is now known as Gyumri. She then continued her studies in Yerevan from 1926 to 1928. This was at the Artistic Production College.

After graduating, Eranuhi moved to Moscow. She went with her older sister, Mariam Aslamazyan. Their sister Anahit helped them financially. They wanted to study at the Vkutemas Higher Art and Technical Studios. Only Mariam was accepted there. Eranuhi joined the studio of famous painters. These were Vladimir Favorsky and Andrei Goncharov.

Life in Moscow was hard for the sisters. After one year, they had to return to Yerevan. Back in Yerevan, Eranuhi worked in a kindergarten. She also designed decorations for city holidays. Two years later, she moved to Kharkiv to study art. She then transferred to the Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts. From 1931 to 1937, she studied at the Leningrad Institute. She graduated with honors.

Her Artistic Journey

From 1938 to 1941, Eranuhi taught art. She taught painting and composition. This was at the Leningrad Young Workers' Institute of Fine Art. By the late 1930s, she was well-known. She was part of the Painter’s Union of Leningrad. She was often invited to show her art. Her works were displayed in Moscow, Leningrad, and Yerevan.

During World War II, she created art. Her works reflected the challenges of that time. In 1945, she received a medal. It was called “For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.”

In 1958, Eranuhi started working with ceramics. This was a new artistic direction for her. The Soviet Union supported her art. This allowed her to travel widely. Between 1959 and 1962, she visited many countries. These included Belgium, Holland, Italy, and India. She also went to Turkey, Ceylon, and Egypt.

Eranuhi received many awards. She was named National Artist of Armenian SSR in 1965. In 1978, she got the “Veteran of Labour” medal. She also received an honorary certificate. This was for her active work in the Council of Artists’ House.

The Aslamazyan Sisters' Gallery

In 1987, a special gallery was opened. It was called the Gallery of Mariam and Eranuhi Aslamazyan Sisters. This gallery is in Gyumri, Armenia. The sisters gave over 620 of their artworks to the gallery. These included paintings, ceramics, and graphic works. Today, this gallery is a very popular place in Gyumri.

Where to See Her Art

Eranuhi Aslamazyan's art is in many museums. You can find her works in London and Sofia. They are also in Berlin, Saint Petersburg, and Venice. Her art is displayed in Tokyo and Delhi too.

Eranuhi Aslamazyan was married. She had a daughter. She passed away on February 4, 1998. She is buried in Moscow.
