Eric Nagler's Life Story
Eric Nagler was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nagler, were both schoolteachers. Eric started his career as a folk musician in the United States. He performed in the famous Greenwich Village folk scene.
In 1966, Eric marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in Mississippi. He helped encourage people to sign up to vote. In May 1968, he married Martha Beers, who was also a musician.
Eric studied at Queens College and Albany State University. He earned a Master's degree in child psychology. He worked for the New York Department of Education. There, he taught children with special needs.
Eric and Martha moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1968. They did this because they did not want to join the army during the Vietnam War. This was due to their personal beliefs. In Canada, Eric worked as a psychologist. He also started working on a higher degree at the University of Toronto.
In 1972, Eric went back to the United States. He had to go to court for not joining the army. He was found not guilty. Around 1971, Eric and Martha owned a music store in Toronto. It was called the Toronto Folklore Centre. Later, they moved to a cabin in Ontario. They toured together as a folk music duo. Eric and Martha divorced in 1977. Since 1991, Eric has lived with his partner Diana Buckley. They live in Mulmur, Ontario, near Shelburne. This area is known for its Annual Canadian Championship Fiddling Contest.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Eric played music on albums by Sharon, Lois & Bram. He also toured with the popular music trio. He was a regular guest star on The Elephant Show. This show started in 1984. From 1991 to 1996, Eric starred in his own children's TV show. It was called Eric's World. This show was shown on Canadian TV networks.
