What Was The Elephant Show About?
The Elephant Show followed the fun adventures of the Canadian singing group Sharon, Lois & Bram. They were joined by a friendly character named Elephant, played by Paula Gallivan in an elephant costume. Elephant didn't speak words. Instead, a tuba (played by Scott Irvine) made sounds to show what Elephant was thinking or feeling.
Who Else Was in the Show?
Besides Sharon, Lois & Bram, the show also featured Eric Nagler. He was a family entertainer who often joined the group. A group of children also appeared in many episodes. Each week, the show also welcomed special guest artists. Some famous guests included Toller Cranston, Andrea Martin, and the music group The Nylons.
Music and Adventures
Almost every episode of The Elephant Show had a concert part. Sharon, Lois & Bram, Eric, and the Mammoth Band would sing songs. They also helped children with common problems like arguments or fears.
The group often traveled to new places in their adventures. They visited interesting spots like hospitals, museums, or zoos. Sometimes, they stayed at home and had adventures right in their own yard. This could be building a tree fort or meeting a grumpy neighbor.
Important Lessons and Popularity
The show sometimes taught important social lessons. For example, it once talked about the work of UNICEF, which helps children worldwide. Sharon, Lois & Bram also appeared in ads during the show. They encouraged parents to get their children vaccinated against diseases like polio, mumps, and rubella.
Every episode ended with the famous song "Skinnamarink". This song was often sung twice because it was so popular!
The Elephant Show was very successful in Canada. It was also one of the top three shows on Nickelodeon in the United States. In 1993, experts at TV Guide magazine rated it the second-best show for preschoolers. It even ranked higher than Sesame Street and Barney & Friends.
The show was seen by over 100 million viewers around the world. It aired in countries like Australia, Great Britain, Japan, and South Africa. After The Elephant Show ended, Eric Nagler starred in his own series called Eric's World.
Home Video Releases
