Andrea Louise Martin (born January 15, 1947) is a super talented actress and comedian. She is known for her funny roles on TV shows like SCTV and Great News. Andrea has also been in many popular movies. These include My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016), and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023).
She has also used her voice for animated films. You might recognize her voice from Anastasia (1997) and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001). Since 2021, she has been a co-star in the TV series Evil. She also has a recurring role on the show Only Murders in the Building (2021).
Andrea Martin is also a big star in theater. She has won two Tony Awards, which are like the Oscars for stage plays. She won for her roles in My Favorite Year and Pippin. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. This is more than any other actress!

Andrea Martin's Early Life
Andrea Martin was born on January 15, 1947, in Portland, Maine. She was the oldest of three children. Her parents were Sybil A. and John Papazian Martin. Her grandparents came from Armenia. They had to leave their home because of the Armenian Genocide. Her family worked hard to fit in when they came to the U.S.
When Andrea was two years old, her mother read to her often. They would read plays by William Shakespeare and poems by Edgar Allan Poe. Andrea started piano lessons when she was eight. She also recited a poem at the Portland Art Museum. She went to Deering High School and graduated in 1965. She was part of the Dramatic Club there.
Andrea Martin's Amazing Career
After college, Andrea Martin got a role in a play called You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. In 1970, she moved to Toronto, Canada. She quickly found work in TV, movies, and theater.
In 1972, she acted in a play called Godspell in Toronto. Other future stars like Martin Short and Eugene Levy were also in it. Andrea also appeared in some early horror movies. She won an award for Best Actress for Cannibal Girls (1973). She also played Phyllis in the horror film Black Christmas (1974).
In 1976, Andrea joined the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV. She played many funny characters on the show. One of her most famous characters was Edith Prickley. Edith was the station manager who wore leopard print clothes. Andrea was also great at impersonating famous people. She could act like Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, and Mother Teresa. In 1981, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on SCTV.
Broadway and Theater Roles
Andrea Martin made her Broadway debut in 1992. It was in the musical My Favorite Year. She won a Tony Award for this role! She also won a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk Award.
She has been in many other Broadway shows. These include Candide (1997) and Oklahoma! (2002). She also starred in Young Frankenstein (2007). All these roles earned her Tony Award nominations.
In 2012–2013, she played Berthe in the musical Pippin. She sang the famous song "No Time At All." The show moved to Broadway in 2013. Andrea won another Tony Award for her role in Pippin. She also won a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award.
TV and Voice Acting
Andrea Martin played Wanda Falbo the Word Fairy on Sesame Street starting in 1989. This character was based on one of her funny characters from SCTV. She also appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
She has won two Emmy Awards for her writing on TV shows. Andrea has done a lot of voice work for cartoons. You can hear her voice in Anastasia, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Rugrats, and The Simpsons.
In 1997, she starred in the TV series Life... and Stuff. She also played Aunt Voula in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. She continued this role in the TV show My Big Fat Greek Life. She also returned as Aunt Voula in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023).
In 2015, she appeared in the Hulu series Difficult People. In 2016, she played Prudy Pingleton in Hairspray Live!. From 2017 to 2018, she starred in the NBC sitcom Great News.
In 2018, Andrea Martin was honored in Canada's Walk of Fame. This is a special award for famous Canadians.
Her Life Outside of Acting
Andrea Martin lives in both Los Angeles and Toronto. In 2017, she became a Canadian citizen. She was married to Bob Dolman and they have two sons, Joe and Jack. She also has a grandchild. Her sister-in-law was Nancy Dolman, who was married to actor Martin Short.
