George and Martha is a fun series of children's books. They were written and illustrated by James Marshall. He created them between 1972 and 1988. Each book tells five short stories. They are all about two best friends, George and Martha, who are hippos. These popular books later became an animated TV show in 1999. There was also a musical play made in 2011.

The books are all about the activities and adventures of best friends George and Martha. They do many fun things together. These include taking dance classes and going to the beach. They also visit the amusement park. Sometimes, they even play funny pranks on each other.
The series teaches important lessons about friendship in a humorous way. George and Martha might argue sometimes. But they always find a way to make up. This shows how strong their friendship is.

Home Video Releases
Some episodes of the TV series were released on VHS tapes. These were put out by Sony Wonder. They were part of their "Doors of Wonder" collection.
The George and Martha Musical
George and Martha also became a musical play. It was called George and Martha: Tons of Fun. The musical was created by Imagination Stage. This theater is located in Bethesda, Maryland. The show first opened in 2011. Joan Cushing wrote the music, book, and lyrics. Kathryn Chase Bryer directed the play.
