Crash & Bernstein was an American TV show that mixed live actors with puppets. It was a television comedy series that first aired on October 8, 2012, on Disney XD. The show was created by Eric Friedman. It ended on August 11, 2014, after two seasons.

The story is about a boy who has three sisters and really wants a brother. His wish comes true when he builds a puppet named Crash. Crash then becomes part of the family. Tim Lagasse, who has worked on Sesame Street and Muppets, was the voice and puppeteer for Crash.

What the Show is About

Wyatt Bernstein is a 12-year-old boy living in Portland, Oregon. He lives with his mom, Mel, and his three sisters: Cleo, Jasmine, and Amanda. For his 12th birthday, Wyatt goes to a special store called Build-A-Bestie. There, he creates a puppet named Crash.

Crash joins the family as the brother Wyatt always wanted. Crash and Wyatt often get into funny situations. They have to deal with Wyatt's sisters and learn to be brothers. Even with their differences, they always look out for each other.

Main Characters

  • Crash (performed by Tim Lagasse) – Crash is a puppet created by Wyatt. He is very energetic and sometimes causes trouble. Crash can be a bit silly and gets into sticky situations. But he has a good heart and usually means well. He can get jealous sometimes. In one episode, he gained knowledge by eating books!
  • Wyatt Bernstein (played by Cole Jensen) – Wyatt is 12 years old and the middle child in his family. He has three sisters and wished for a brother. This wish came true when he built Crash. Wyatt often gets annoyed by Crash's wild ideas. But he loves spending time with his puppet brother. Pesto is his best friend.
  • Cleopatra "Cleo" Bernstein (played by Landry Bender) – Cleo is Wyatt's 10-year-old sister. She shares a room with him. Cleo is very smart about business and has her own "company" called "CLEO." She sells all sorts of things. Cleo can be bossy, but she is also very clever. She has a crush on Pesto.
  • Amanda Bernstein (played by Oana Gregory) – Amanda is Wyatt's 16-year-old sister. She is very popular and likes to have fun. Pesto has a crush on her. Amanda is sociable but can sometimes annoy Crash, Wyatt, and Pesto. She is also not a very good cook!
  • Pesto (played by Aaron Landon) – Pesto is Wyatt's best friend. His parents own a fun arcade where he works. Pesto really likes Amanda and often tries to impress her, but it usually doesn't work out. He talks about his mom a lot. At first, he didn't like Crash, but now they are somewhat friends.

  • Jasmine Bernstein (played by Mckenna Grace) – Jasmine is the youngest Bernstein sister, at 6 years old. She has a doll named Princess Glitter that Crash loves. Jasmine throws a big tantrum if she doesn't get her way. She is very smart for her age and can use electronics well.
  • Melanie "Mel" Bernstein (played by Mary Birdsong) – Mel is the mom of Amanda, Wyatt, Cleo, and Jasmine. She is married to Karl. Mel is not always happy about Crash's wild actions.
  • Scottie (played by Curtis Harris) – Scottie is one of Wyatt's friends from Linus Pauling Middle School. He also hosts the school's show, "Good Morning Linus Pauling."
  • Martin Poulos (played by Danny Woodburn) – Martin Poulos is the landlord of the Bernstein family's apartment building. He carries a "swear jar" to keep his language clean around others. He used to be a wrestler named "Plunger."
  • Rufus "The Slapper" (played by Zachary Conneen) – Rufus is the school bully at Linus Pauling Middle School.
  • Roland (played by Ron Funches) – Roland works at the newsstand in Wyatt's neighborhood.
  • Coach Urkhart (played by Chip Chinery) – Coach Urkhart is the wrestling coach at Wyatt's school. He was once a wrestling partner with Martin Poulos.
  • Karl Bernstein (played by Richard Ruccolo) – Karl is Mel's husband and the dad of the kids. He first appears in Season 2. Karl is a wildlife photographer and travels a lot for his job.

Where the Show Aired

Crash & Bernstein first aired in the United States on Disney XD on October 8, 2012. It also showed reruns on Disney Channel. The series premiered in Canada on November 3, 2012, on Disney XD (Canada). It came to the UK and Ireland on January 10, 2013, on Disney XD (UK and Ireland). In South Africa, it started on February 9, 2013, on Disney XD (South Africa). Australian viewers could watch it on April 19, 2013, on Disney Channel. Reruns aired on Disney XD in Australia at the end of 2015.

Fun Online Activities

In July 2013, DisneyXD.com let viewers vote for their favorite nose for Crash. The winning nose was shown during the second season's first episode. Also, for the second season's premiere, a game called "Crash & Bernstein: Cluck n' Chuck" was launched. In this game, fans could play as Crash and Wyatt. The game was available on computers and mobile devices.

Possible Spin-off Show

On July 10, 2014, there were reports that Disney XD was making a pilot episode for a possible spin-off show. It was going to be called Commando Crash. The idea was that Crash would go to Oak Shield Military School. Actors like Adam Dorfman and Cameron Ocasio were in the pilot. However, the pilot was made, but the show was not picked up as a full series.
