Disney Channel was a popular TV channel in Australia and New Zealand. It was a special channel you paid for, owned by The Walt Disney Company. The channel started in 1996 and was known for showing fun programs for kids and families.
The Disney Channel showed many different kinds of programs. These included animated shows and live-action series from the United States. It also aired original movies made just for the channel. Sometimes, you could even watch movies that were first shown in cinemas by Disney.
The channel stopped broadcasting in New Zealand on November 30, 2019. It then closed in Australia on March 1, 2020, for Foxtel viewers. Finally, it stopped being available on Fetch TV on April 30, 2020.

Disney Channel also showed series from other countries. These included Hotel Transylvania: The Series, Rolling with the Ronks!, and The ZhuZhus. In 2017, the channel even started showing an Australian series called Grace Beside Me. This show was made by NITV and ABC.
Movies on Disney Channel
The channel was a great place to watch movies too. It showed popular Pixar films like A Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc.. Classic animated movies such as Aladdin and The Emperor's New Groove were also shown. Plus, Disney Channel was known for its original movies made for TV. These included the High School Musical and Descendants movie series.
Australian-Made Programs
Disney Channel Australia also created some of its own shows. One was a local version of As the Bell Rings. They also made a short series called Mind Over Maddie. In 2013, they launched Hanging With. This was a show where hosts talked about upcoming programs and other fun topics. In 2019, they produced Spread the Word. This short series taught viewers about words from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. Other local shows included Backstage Pass and Radio Disney Insider.

Disney Junior
Disney Junior was another 24-hour TV channel. It started on December 5, 2005, as Playhouse Disney. In 2011, it changed its name to Disney Junior. This channel was made for younger kids, usually aged 2 to 7. Disney Junior stopped broadcasting at the same time as Disney Channel on April 30, 2020.
Disney XD
Disney XD was a 24-hour TV channel that launched on April 10, 2014. Its programs were mostly for boys aged 6 to 14. Disney XD stopped broadcasting earlier than the other channels, on January 6, 2019.
