Ronald Kyle Funches (born March 12, 1983), known as Ron Funches, is a funny American comedian and actor. He was born in California and lived in Chicago when he was little. Later, he moved to Salem, Oregon, as a teenager.

Ron started his comedy journey in Portland, Oregon, when he was 23. In 2012, he moved to Los Angeles. There, he began appearing on many comedy TV shows. You might have seen him on @midnight, Mulaney, or Kroll Show.

From 2014 to 2016, Ron was a regular on the NBC show Undateable. In 2015, he started using his voice for cartoon characters. He voiced characters in shows like BoJack Horseman, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, and Adventure Time. He also voiced Cooper in the animated movie Trolls (2016). Ron has also been a guest star on TV shows like Transparent (2016) and Black-ish (2017). He even played Cooper again in the Trolls cartoon series Trolls: The Beat Goes On! (2018).

Since 2019, he has voiced King Shark in the DC Comics TV series Harley Quinn. He also voiced Fox in the TV series Final Space. In 2020, Ron voiced Cooper again in the movie Trolls World Tour. He also voiced Ron in the Netflix show Hoops starting in 2020. In 2021, Ron began voicing Kevin in the FX series Poorly Drawn Lines.

Early Life and Education

Ronald Kyle Funches was born on March 12, 1983, in Carson, California. He spent his early childhood in Chicago, Illinois, with his mom and sister. His mother worked as a social worker. When Ron was 13, he moved to Salem, Oregon, to live with his dad, who worked as a pipefitter.

He went to Douglas McKay High School in Salem. There, he enjoyed English classes and was inspired by famous writers. After high school, Ron moved to Portland, Oregon. He worked different jobs, like at a bank call center and a grocery store.

Comedy and Acting Career

Ron Funches started doing stand-up comedy in Portland when he was 23. In 2011, he had a small part on an episode of Portlandia. Then, in 2012, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career.

Starting in 2013, he was a regular on the comedy show @midnight. He also had a role in the show Crash & Bernstein (2013). Ron also worked as a writer for The Eric Andre Show and Comedy Central's The Half Hour (2014). In 2014, he was also a regular comedian on Chelsea Lately.

In 2015, Ron voiced many characters in animated shows. These included BoJack Horseman, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, and Adventure Time.

Ron played Shelly on the NBC comedy series Undateable from 2014 to 2016. He also had a supporting role in the 2015 comedy movie Get Hard.

In 2016, he voiced Cooper in the animated movie Trolls. That same year, Ron was a guest star on many other shows. These included Another Period, Take My Wife, and Transparent.

Since 2019, he has voiced King Shark in the DC Comics TV series Harley Quinn. He also voiced Fox in the TBS series Final Space. Ron played a character named "Funchy" in season 3 (2019) of the CBS show Man with a Plan. He voiced Cooper again in the Trolls sequel, Trolls World Tour (2020). Ron also voiced Shag Rugg on the 2021 HBO Max show Jellystone!.

On April 20, 2021, Ron Funches became the host of Chopped 420. This is a cooking competition show.

Comedy Inspirations

Ron Funches has said that Lucille Ball, Dave Chappelle, and Mitch Hedberg greatly influenced his comedy. He especially admired Lucille Ball. He said that her show, I Love Lucy, was his first look into comedy. He also admired how she helped women in Hollywood and showed an interracial marriage on TV in the 1950s. Ron sees her as a big influence on him as a person and a professional.

Personal Life

Ron Funches had his first son, Malcolm, when he was 20 years old. Ron often talks about Malcolm's autism in his stand-up comedy. He welcomes fans to share their own stories with him. Ron married Christina Dawn in August 2020. They had a second son in 2022. In October 2022, they separated.

Ron loves video games and wrestling. He even took wrestling classes for a few months! In September 2021, he made his wrestling debut at GCW. In August 2022, he started his own wrestling podcast called One Fall with Ron Funches.

He has also shared that he once weighed 360 pounds. Over a few years, Ron lost about 140 pounds.
