List of Disney XD TV channels facts for kids
Disney XD is a TV channel brand for kids and teens, owned by The Walt Disney Company. It first started in the United States on February 13, 2009. Before that, many of these channels were known as Toon Disney or Jetix in different parts of the world.
Over time, Disney XD has become smaller in many countries. This is mainly because of the popularity of Disney+, which is Disney's streaming service. Now, Disney XD channels are mostly found in the United States, Canada, and Poland. The Netherlands has a channel that shares time with another network.
Where you can still watch Disney XD
Disney XD is still available in a few places around the world:
- United States: This is the original Disney XD channel, launched on February 13, 2009. It used to be called Toon Disney.
- Poland: The channel in Poland started on September 19, 2009, and was previously known as Jetix.
- Netherlands: Here, Disney XD shares its broadcast time during the day with another TV channel called Veronica TV. It began on January 1, 2010, and was also Jetix before.
- Canada: The Canadian Disney XD channel launched on December 1, 2015.
Channels that are no longer active
Many Disney XD channels have closed down in different countries over the years. This often happened because Disney wanted to focus on its streaming service, Disney+, where many of the shows moved.
- Canada (Original): An earlier version of Disney XD in Canada, called Family CHRGD (now WildBrainTV), stopped being Disney XD on October 9, 2015. This was because Corus Entertainment took over the rights to Disney shows.
- Canada (French): There was a special block of Disney XD shows on the French-language channel La Chaîne Disney from 2016 to 2019. Now, these shows are just part of the regular programming.
- Israel: A temporary Disney XD channel was available for one month in early 2018.
- Netherlands (24-hour channel): A full-time Disney XD channel in the Netherlands closed on August 1, 2018.
- Australia and New Zealand: The channel in Australia closed on January 6, 2019. Some of its shows moved to Disney Channel.
- India: Disney XD in India closed on January 9, 2019. It was replaced by a channel called Marvel HQ, which still airs some Disney XD shows.
- Italy: All Disney XD channels in Italy, including extra channels and HD versions, closed on October 1, 2019. This happened because Disney's agreement with Sky Italia ended. Shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- Spain: Disney XD channels in Spain closed on April 1, 2020. Their shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- Germany: The German Disney XD channels also closed on April 1, 2020. Like in Spain, shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- United Kingdom and Ireland: The Disney XD +1 channel closed on May 1, 2020. The main Disney XD channel closed on October 1, 2020. This was because Disney+ became very popular, and new deals with TV providers were not made. Shows moved to Disney+.
- France: Disney XD in France closed on May 1, 2020. Its shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- Scandinavia: The Disney XD channel for Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and the Baltic states closed on January 1, 2021. Shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- Southeast Asia: Disney XD channels in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines closed between June 2020 and January 2021. Many of their shows moved to Disney+ Hotstar or Disney Channel.
- Japan: The Disney XD channel in Japan closed on February 1, 2021. Its shows moved to Disney Channel and Disney+.
- Greece and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa): Channels in these regions, including Turkey and parts of Africa, closed on February 1, 2021, or October 1, 2020. Shows moved to Disney+.
- Latin America: The Disney XD channel for Latin America closed on April 1, 2022. Its shows moved to Disney+.
