Disney Channel is a popular TV channel in Germany. It's owned by The Walt Disney Company Germany. The channel is based in Munich and shows programs for children and families.
The channel broadcasts many different shows. These include new TV series, movies that were shown in cinemas, and movies made just for TV. Most of the original shows come from the Disney Channel in America.
Disney Channel first started on October 16, 1999. Back then, it was a channel you had to pay for, available on the Sky Deutschland platform. It stopped being a pay-TV channel on November 30, 2013. Then, on January 17, 2014, it became a free channel for everyone to watch. It took the place of another channel called Das Vierte.
Disney Channel competes with other channels that also show programs for kids. Some of these are Super RTL, KiKa, and Nickelodeon Germany.

How Disney Channel Started
Walt Disney Television International opened its offices in Germany on March 1, 1999. Disney Channel Germany then launched as a channel you paid for on October 16, 1999.
Disney bought a free-to-air TV station called Das Vierte in December 2012. In April 2013, Disney announced that Das Vierte would become Disney Channel. This new free channel would show family entertainment 24 hours a day. Lars Wagner, who was in charge of Disney Channel in Germany, led this change.
When the free Disney Channel launched, it showed popular Disney Channel shows during the day. These included Jessie, Austin & Ally, Phineas and Ferb, and Gravity Falls. In the evenings, they showed Pixar movies and other shows for older viewers.
The channel stopped broadcasting on November 30, 2013. It then launched as a free channel on January 17, 2014, at 6 AM. The first thing shown was the classic animated short film Steamboat Willie. Disney reported that after its launch weekend, it became the third most-watched kids' channel.
