Eric Riley, born on June 2, 1970, is an American former professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1993 NBA draft. Riley played for several teams in the NBA, including the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Boston Celtics. He was part of the Houston Rockets team that won the NBA championship in 1994.
Riley grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He played high school basketball at St. Joseph High School. Later, he played college basketball at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, he was part of the famous "Fab Five" teams. These teams reached the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship final game in both 1992 and 1993.

Eric Riley's College Basketball Journey
In 1991, during his second year at Michigan, Eric Riley was a standout player. He led the entire Michigan team in two important stats: rebounds and blocked shots. He was even second in the Big Ten Conference for rebounds that season. Because of his great performance, he received an honorable mention for the All-Big Ten team in 1991.
When the "Fab Five" players joined the team, Riley became a key reserve player. He led all reserve players in points, rebounds, and blocks. One of his best games happened during the 1992 NCAA tournament semifinals.
Playing in the NBA and Beyond
Before the 1993 NBA draft, the Houston Rockets got the rights to draft Eric Riley. He spent his first professional season with the Rockets in 1993-94. This team was coached by Rudy Tomjanovich, who also played for Michigan. The Rockets won their first NBA title that year. Even though Riley was on the team, he was on the injured list before the playoffs started.
After leaving the Rockets, Riley joined the Los Angeles Clippers. During his career from 1993 to 2004, he played for five different NBA teams. He also played for several professional basketball teams outside of the United States.
Helping Others Through Sports
In 2009, Eric Riley started a non-profit organization called High Rise Foundation (HRF). HRF is a charity that aims to help young adults. They do this by offering sports programs, sports clinics, and academic tutoring. Their mission is to mentor young people and help them grow.
