Eric Striker, born on October 1, 1993, is an American who used to play professional football. He was a defensive lineman, a player who tries to stop the other team from scoring. Eric played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Early Life and High School Football

Eric Striker grew up in Tampa, Florida. He went to Armwood High School where he was a talented athlete. Eric played football, baseball, and ran track.

High School Football Achievements

In high school football, Eric was amazing at getting to the quarterback. He set a school record with 42 sacks during his career. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

As a junior in 2010, he made 125 tackles and 16 sacks. In his senior year, he had 109 tackles, 11 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. These great performances earned him a spot on the Sports Illustrated first-team All-American list.

College Football Career

Eric Striker accepted a scholarship to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. He joined the team under coach Bob Stoops.

Freshman Season (2012)

In 2012, as a freshman, Eric played in all 13 games. He recorded six tackles in a game against the Kansas Jayhawks.

Sophomore Season (2013)

During his sophomore year, Eric became a starter and played in every game. He showed his skills in many important moments.

  • Against rival Texas, he made a career-high seven tackles.
  • One week later, against Kansas, Eric got his first career sack.
  • In the annual Bedlam Series game against Oklahoma State, he scored a touchdown. He returned a fumble three yards on the very last play of the game.

Sugar Bowl Victory

In the final game of the 2013 season, Eric helped Oklahoma win a big upset. They beat Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl. Eric had a career-high three sacks and tied his career-high with seven tackles. In the last minute of the game, he forced a fumble from Alabama's quarterback, A. J. McCarron. Another player, Geneo Grissom, picked up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown, sealing the Sooners' victory.

Senior Season (2015)

In his senior year, Eric started all 13 games as an outside linebacker. He continued to make big plays for his team.

  • On October 10, he tied his career-high with 12 tackles against West Virginia. Three of those tackles were for a loss, and he also had two sacks and a forced fumble.
  • On October 24, 2015, Eric got his first interception in college. He caught the ball at the line of scrimmage and returned it close to the goal line against Texas Tech.
  • In the Orange Bowl against Clemson, he recorded six tackles, with three of them being for a loss.

Professional Football Career

After college, Eric Striker continued his football journey in professional leagues.

Buffalo Bills (2016)

On April 30, 2016, the Buffalo Bills signed Eric as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was still given a chance to play. However, he was waived by the Bills on August 30, 2016.

In April 2017, Eric returned to the Oklahoma Sooners. He was hired by coach Bob Stoops as the team's Defensive Recruiting Analyst.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (2018)

In April 2018, Eric attended tryouts for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Bradenton, Florida. He was signed by the team and made it onto the roster. He played in the first game of the season against the Toronto Argonauts, where he recorded two tackles. He played only one game for the Roughriders before being traded.

Toronto Argonauts (2018–2019)

On July 3, 2018, Eric Striker was traded to the Toronto Argonauts. For the Argonauts, he played in eight games. He made 17 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles.
