Erica Kennedy (born March 24, 1970 – died June 13, 2012) was an American writer, blogger, and journalist. She was also a fashion expert and even a singer! Her book, Bling, became a huge hit in 2004. It even made it onto The New York Times Best Seller list. In 2010, Ebony magazine named her one of the 100 most influential African Americans. This list was called the "Ebony Power 100".

Erica Kennedy Johnson was born on March 24, 1970. She grew up in Bayside, Queens, a neighborhood in New York City. Her mother, Mary Mobley Johnson, was an interior designer. Erica also had a brother named Kirk Johnson.
Erica went to college at Sarah Lawrence College. She also studied at Oxford University in England. In 1992, she earned her degree in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence. Erica was also a close friend of model and TV star Kimora Lee Simmons. She was even the maid of honor at Kimora's wedding!
Erica's Career
After college, Erica Kennedy started her career in public relations. She worked with famous fashion designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Sean Combs. Later, she became a journalist. She wrote about fashion and entertainment for many popular magazines. These included Vibe, InStyle, Paper, and Elle UK.
One interesting story from her career is how she got a job at InStyle. The famous musician Prince (who was known as The Artist at the time) asked to be interviewed by an African-American woman. Erica had sent her writing samples to the magazine before. But they only called her when Prince made this special request! She also wrote a popular blog for Huffington Post.
Her Books
Erica Kennedy wrote two novels. Her first book, Bling, came out in 2004. It was published by Miramax Books. This book was very popular and reached number 35 on The New York Times Best Seller list. A company called the Weinstein Company even planned to turn the book into a movie.
Her second novel was called Feminista. It was published in 2009 by St. Martin's Press.
Later Life
Erica Kennedy passed away on June 13, 2012, in Miami Beach, Florida. She was 42 years old.
