Discovering the Lobed Fleabane
Where Does It Grow?
The lobed fleabane is found in specific areas. You can find it in the state of Sonora in northwestern Mexico. It also grows in the southwestern United States. These states include Arizona, southern Nevada, and southeastern Utah. This plant loves desert regions. It often grows near a plant called creosotebush.
What Does It Look Like?
Erigeron lobatus is an annual plant. This means it lives for only one growing season. It can grow up to 50 centimeters (about 20 inches) tall. That's like two average-sized rulers stacked up! It has many branches. The plant also has a main root that grows straight down, called a taproot.
Its leaves can be up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) long. They have a unique shape. The leaves are deeply cut into many small parts. These parts look like lobes or divisions.
Its Beautiful Flowers
Each stem of the lobed fleabane produces 1 to 5 flower heads. A flower head looks like one big flower. But it is actually made of many tiny flowers grouped together. Each head can have up to 110 white ray florets. These are the petal-like parts around the edge. In the center, there are many yellow disc florets. These are the tiny flowers that make up the yellow middle part.
