Erik Kenneth Edman (born 11 November 1978) is a Swedish former footballer. He played as a defender. Erik started his career with Helsingborgs IF in 1997.
He then played for clubs in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, England, and France. Erik retired from playing football in 2013. He also played for the Swedish national team from 2001 to 2009. He played in 57 games for his country. Erik also represented Sweden in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Erik Edman's Club Career Journey
Starting Out in Football
Erik Edman played for several football clubs during his career. He started at Helsingborgs IF in Sweden. In 1999, he left Sweden to play abroad. He had short times at Torino in Italy and Karlsruher SC in Germany.
In 2001, Erik returned to Sweden to play for AIK for one season. After that, he moved to the Netherlands. He joined Heerenveen, where he played for three years.
Playing for Tottenham Hotspur
In July 2004, Erik Edman joined Tottenham Hotspur in England. He quickly became an important player for the team. Fans often remember him for an amazing goal he scored. He shot the ball from 41 yards away against Liverpool in April 2005.
However, in the summer of 2005, another left-back, Lee Young-Pyo, joined the team. This led Erik to decide to leave England.
Time at Rennes in France
In August 2005, Tottenham Hotspur agreed to let Erik join Rennes, a French club. Erik quickly impressed his new manager, László Bölöni. He became the first-choice left-back for Rennes.
Joining Wigan Athletic
In January 2008, Wigan Athletic signed Erik Edman. They paid £500,000 for him. His arrival was good for Wigan. They needed a new player after Leighton Baines had left.
In March 2008, Erik got a serious knee injury during a match. This meant he could not play for the rest of the season. He also missed UEFA Euro 2008. Erik returned to play for Wigan in January 2009. However, he did not play much because of injuries. Also, Maynor Figueroa was playing very well in his position. Erik played his last game for Wigan in November. It was a tough match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Back to Helsingborgs IF
On 5 February 2010, Helsingborgs IF announced that Erik Edman was rejoining them. He signed a five-year contract with his old Swedish club. In December 2012, it was announced that Erik would start coaching at Helsingborgs IF.
Playing for Sweden's National Team
Erik Edman was a part of the Swedish national team. He played for them from 2001 to 2009. In 2002, he was in Sweden's squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any games.
After the 2002 World Cup, Erik started playing more often for Sweden. He was the starting left-back for the team at UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
He scored his first and only goal for Sweden in March 2005. It was a free kick against Bulgaria during a World Cup qualifier game.
Erik missed UEFA Euro 2008 because of his knee injury. He stopped playing for the national team the next year.
