Erik Kenneth Edman is a former professional football player from Sweden. He was born on November 11, 1978. Erik played as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He started his career with Helsingborgs IF in 1997. Over the years, he played for many different clubs in countries like Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, England, and France. Erik also played for the Swedish national team from 2001 to 2009. Early Football Clubs
Erik began his professional career with Helsingborgs IF in Sweden in 1997. In 1999, he left Sweden for the first time to play abroad. He had short periods at Torino in Italy and Karlsruher SC in Germany. In 2001, Erik returned to Sweden and joined AIK for one season. After that, he moved to the Netherlands to play for Heerenveen.
Playing for Tottenham Hotspur
In July 2004, Erik Edman joined Tottenham Hotspur, a famous club in England. He quickly became an important player for the team. Fans often remember him for an amazing goal he scored in April 2005. He shot the ball from 41 yards away during a Premier League match against Liverpool, and it went straight into the net! However, in the summer of 2005, another player, Lee Young-Pyo, joined the team. This led Erik to decide to leave England.
Time at Rennes
In August 2005, Tottenham Hotspur accepted an offer from a French club called Rennes. Erik quickly impressed his new coach, László Bölöni. He once again became the first-choice player for the left-back position.
Moving to Wigan Athletic
In January 2008, Erik Edman was signed by Wigan Athletic in England. This was a good move for Wigan, as they needed a strong player in his position. In March 2008, Erik got a serious knee injury during a match against Blackburn Rovers. This injury meant he missed the rest of that season and also UEFA Euro 2008.
Erik returned to play for Wigan in January 2009. He came on as a substitute in a game against Manchester United. However, he struggled with injuries and found it hard to get regular playing time. His last game for Wigan was in November 2009.
Return to Helsingborgs IF
On February 5, 2010, Helsingborgs IF announced that Erik Edman had rejoined them. He signed a five-year contract with his old Swedish club. In December 2012, it was announced that Erik would also start working as a coach at Helsingborgs IF.

Erik Edman was a key part of the Swedish national team from 2001 to 2009.
World Cup and Euro Appearances
In 2002, he was part of Sweden's team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Although he was in the squad, he did not play in any games. After the 2002 World Cup, Erik started playing more regularly for Sweden. He was the starting left-back for his country at UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
First International Goal
Erik scored his first and only goal for the national team in March 2005. It was a free kick during a World Cup qualifier match against Bulgaria. The game was played at the Vasil Levski National Stadium.
Erik missed UEFA Euro 2008 because of his knee injury. He stopped playing for the national team the following year.
