AIK Fotboll, usually called AIK, is a Swedish professional football club. Its full name, Allmänna Idrottsklubben, means "the public sports club". AIK plays in Allsvenskan, which is the top football league in Sweden. The club was started in Stockholm in 1891, and its football team began in 1896. AIK's home stadium is Strawberry Arena in Solna, just north of the Stockholm City Centre.

AIK won the league championship in 2018. They have won 12 championship titles in total. This makes them the third most successful club in the all-time Allsvenskan table. AIK has also played the most seasons in Sweden's top football league.

In Europe, AIK has done well too. They reached the quarter-finals of the 1996–97 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. They also played in the main group stages of the UEFA Champions League in 1999–00. Later, they competed in the UEFA Europa League group stage in 2012–13.

History

AIK has a long and interesting history. The club was founded on February 15, 1891, by Isidor Behrens. It started as a general sports club, offering many different activities. The football section was added a few years later, in 1896. Over the years, AIK became one of Sweden's most famous and successful football clubs. They have won many titles and played against top teams from all over Europe.

Team Kits

AIK's main home kit is black. Their away kit is white. The shorts are usually white, but sometimes they are black. The socks have black and yellow stripes. Their second socks are all white.

Over the years, AIK has used different kit suppliers. From 2018 onwards, Nike has been their kit provider. Nike releases a new AIK kit every year before the new football season starts.

You can see logos of different sponsors on AIK's shirts and shorts. These include Truecaller, a phone app, and Volkswagen, a car company. Other sponsors are Stadium, a sports shop, and Svenska Spel, a Swedish gambling company. The Svenska Spel logo must be on the right sleeve of all Allsvenskan teams' shirts.

Stadium

Since 2013, AIK has played its home games at the Nationalarenan. This stadium is now known as Strawberry Arena because of a sponsorship deal. The Swedish national team also plays here.

Before 2013, AIK's home was Råsunda. The club's members voted in 2011 to decide which new arena AIK would move to. Most members chose Nationalarenan over Tele2 Arena.

Rivalries

AIK has a big rivalry with Djurgården. This club was also formed in Stockholm in 1891, just three weeks after AIK. Their matches are called Tvillingderbyt, which means "the Twin derby". Many people think this is the biggest rivalry in Swedish football. AIK also has a strong rivalry with Hammarby, another major Stockholm team. Outside Stockholm, their biggest rivals are IFK Göteborg and Malmö FF.

Attendances

AIK has a very loyal fanbase. In 2023, AIK had an average of 25,739 fans at their home games. This was the highest attendance in the Allsvenskan league, even though the team wasn't doing its best that season.

AIK has had the highest average attendance in Sweden 41 times. This is more than any other club in Sweden. Their city rival, IFK Göteborg, is second with 23 times. In 2018, AIK even broke the record for most tickets sold for an Allsvenskan derby game against Hammarby.

Club Culture

The club's entrance music and hymn is "Å vi e AIK". This means "Oh we are AIK" in Swedish. It's a Swedish version of a 1971 song called "The Last Farewell" by Roger Whittaker. The version used by AIK since the mid-2000s is similar to Elvis Presley's 1976 cover of the song.
