John Alberto Guidetti (born on April 15, 1992) is a Swedish professional footballer. He plays as a striker for the Allsvenskan club AIK.
John grew up playing football in his home country, Sweden, and also in Kenya. In 2008, he returned to Sweden and played for IF Brommapojkarna. At just 16 years old, he moved to the English club Manchester City.
He spent time on loan at different clubs. These included Brommapojkarna again and Burnley in 2010. He joined the Dutch club Feyenoord on loan for the 2011–12 season. There, he scored an amazing 20 goals in 23 games. However, a virus ended his time in the Netherlands early.

John Guidetti played for Sweden at many youth levels. He earned his first senior international game against Croatia in February 2012. With the under-21 team, he won the 2015 European Championship. He also played for Sweden's senior team in UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Guidetti started his football journey at the Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna in 1998. In 2002, his family moved to Kenya because of his father's job. John left Brommapojkarna and joined the Impala BrommaBoys football academy in Nairobi.
After a year, Guidetti joined Mathare United's academy. This organization helps with sports development in the slums of Nairobi. In 2004, he moved to Ligi Ndogo. In 2006, he returned to Sweden and IF Brommapojkarna. Guidetti lived in Kenya for about five years. He says this time helped him grow as a player and a person.
That period was very important for my development, both on and off the pitch. I played football barefoot in the slum areas of Nairobi and I came into contact with local people and their culture. I still have a strong link with Kenya and every time I go back there I always get a warm welcome.
In April 2008, when he was 16, Guidetti signed a three-year deal with Manchester City. Many other big clubs, like Inter Milan and Ajax Cape Town, also wanted to sign him.
Time at Manchester City
The manager of Manchester City at the time, Sven Goran Eriksson, saw Guidetti's talent in Sweden. He quickly signed him. Guidetti had a great first season with the Manchester City under-18 team. He scored 13 goals in 19 games. He also scored a hat-trick in his first game for the reserve team against Burnley.
Loan to Brommapojkarna
In 2010, he went back on loan to his old club, Brommapojkarna. He played very well, scoring three goals and helping with three assists in just eight games.
First Team Chances
Manchester City's manager, Roberto Mancini, wanted to see Guidetti play with the first team. He gave him a chance during the club's pre-season tour in the United States in 2010. Guidetti made his debut for the Manchester City first team on this tour. He came on as a substitute against Sporting Lisbon.
Two months later, Guidetti made his first start in a competitive match for Manchester City. This was in a League Cup game against West Bromwich Albion in September 2010. He helped set up City's only goal in that game.
Loan to Burnley
On November 25, 2010, Guidetti joined Burnley on a one-month loan. On December 26, 2010, he scored his first goal for Burnley in a 2–1 win against Barnsley. Manchester City called him back on December 31, 2010.
Loan to Feyenoord
On the last day of the transfer window in 2011, Feyenoord and Manchester City agreed on a loan deal for Guidetti. He made his debut for Feyenoord on September 11, 2011, scoring a penalty. He scored many goals, including two in a 4–0 win against Vitesse. On December 18, 2011, he scored a hat-trick in Feyenoord's 3–2 win against FC Twente.
On January 29, 2012, he scored another hat-trick against Ajax. Feyenoord won that game 4–2, which was their first win against Ajax in six years. This made him a hero in Rotterdam. His coach, Ronald Koeman, called him "phenomenal." On February 12, he scored his third hat-trick for the club in a 3–1 win against Vitesse. He became the second player in the league's history to score three hat-tricks in a row at home.
Guidetti scored his 18th goal in his 16th league game. He celebrated by taking off his shirt, which earned him a second yellow card and a red card. He later apologized to his team and fans. He scored his 20th and final goal of the season in April. Guidetti then missed the rest of the season and UEFA Euro 2012 due to a mystery virus. This virus caused him to lose feeling in his right leg.
Even without Guidetti, Feyenoord finished second in the league. This earned them a spot in the 2012–13 UEFA Champions League qualification rounds. Guidetti scored 20 goals and had eight assists in 23 games for Feyenoord during this loan.
Dealing with Injury
Guidetti returned to Manchester City for the 2012–13 season. He spent most of the season recovering from the virus. The virus had infected a nerve, causing him to lose feeling in his right leg. Despite this, Guidetti signed a new three-year deal with Manchester City in October 2012.
He finally played football again on January 14, 2013. He played in an Under-21 League match and scored the first goal in a 3–1 win. Guidetti scored five more goals in his next six games for the Development Side. However, he then got a knee injury that needed surgery.
Loan to Stoke City
On January 14, 2014, Guidetti joined Stoke City on loan. He made his debut on January 18, 2014, as a substitute in a 1–0 loss to Crystal Palace. He played only six games for Stoke, all as a substitute.
Loan to Celtic
On September 4, 2014, Guidetti joined Scottish team Celtic on loan for the 2014–15 season. He made his debut nine days later. On September 24, he scored his first Celtic goal in a 3–0 win against Heart of Midlothian. Three days later, he scored two goals in a 2–1 win against St Mirren.
He scored a hat-trick on October 29 in a 6–0 win against Partick Thistle. This was the 15th hat-trick by a Swedish player at Celtic. He was named the Premiership Player of the Month for October 2014. He scored six goals in four games that month.
Guidetti scored a penalty in Celtic's 4–0 win against Heart of Midlothian in November. This was his 11th goal in just 10 games for Celtic. He then went 10 games without a goal. However, he scored a late goal against Inter Milan in the UEFA Europa League in February, making the score 3–3.
On March 15, Guidetti won his first trophy with Celtic. They beat Dundee United 2–0 in the League Cup Final. In April, he scored in a Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness, but Celtic lost 3–2. He finished the season with 15 goals in 35 games for Celtic.
At the end of the 2014–15 season, Manchester City decided not to offer Guidetti a new contract. He became a free agent.
Celta Vigo
On July 11, 2015, Guidetti signed a five-year contract with the La Liga club Celta Vigo. He made his debut on August 23. He scored his first goal on September 23, a volley in a 4–1 win over FC Barcelona. On January 27, 2016, Guidetti scored a long-range volley in a 3–2 win against Atlético Madrid. This helped his team reach the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey for the first time in 15 years.
Alavés
On January 8, 2018, Guidetti was loaned to another La Liga club, Deportivo Alavés. On May 29, he signed a permanent four-year deal with the club.
