College Career
Erik McCree started his college basketball journey at Murray State University. After his freshman year, he decided to transfer. In 2013, he moved to Louisiana Tech University.
He really shined during his time at Louisiana Tech. In his junior year, he was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team. This means he was one of the best players in his college league. He got even better in his senior year, earning a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team.
Professional Journey
Starting with the Skyforce
After finishing college in 2017, Erik McCree hoped to join the NBA. However, he was not chosen in the 2017 NBA draft. This means no NBA team picked him directly.
Even so, he got a chance to play for the Houston Rockets's Summer League team. Later, he signed with the Miami Heat for their training camp. He was waived by the Heat before the regular season began. Then, he was assigned to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, a team in the NBA G League. He played for them until December 21, 2017.
Time with the Utah Jazz
On December 21, 2017, Erik McCree signed a special deal called a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz. This type of contract allows a player to play for both an NBA team and its G League team. He took the place of another player, Eric Griffin.
For the rest of that season, Erik split his time. He played for the Jazz in the NBA and for their G League team, the Salt Lake City Stars. Erik made his first official NBA appearance on February 5, 2018. He played for about two minutes in a big win against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Playing in Europe and Asia
After his time with the Jazz, Erik McCree continued his professional career overseas. On August 1, 2018, he signed with VL Pesaro, an Italian basketball club.
In July 2019, he moved to France to play for BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in the French LNB Pro A league. He then had a short time with the Bakken Bears in Denmark in October 2020.
Later that same month, Erik returned to BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque. He played for them for the rest of the 2020–2021 season. During this time, he averaged 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
In July 2021, he signed with Peristeri in Greece. He played there until January 2022, averaging 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds. After leaving Peristeri, he joined Gaziantep Basketbol in Turkey in January 2022.
In June 2022, Erik signed with the Shiga Lakestars in Japan. However, his contract ended in September due to his physical condition. In December 2022, he played for the Magnolia Hotshots in the Philippines for three games.
In September 2023, Erik joined the Taipei Taishin Mars in Taiwan. His contract with them ended in February 2024. In November 2024, he signed with Al Nassr in the Saudi Basketball League. As of 2025, he is playing for Leones de Ponce in Puerto Rico.
