About Erika Geiss
Early Life and Education
Erika Geiss has an interesting family background. Her grandparents came from Panama. She went to Brandeis University and earned a degree in developmental psychology. This field studies how people grow and change. Later, she studied art and architectural history at Tufts University.
Serving in the Michigan House
Erika Geiss started her political career in the Michigan House of Representatives. She was elected in November 2014. She represented the 12th district. This district includes the cities of Romulus and Taylor. It also includes part of Van Buren Township. She took over this role from her husband, Doug Geiss.
Moving to the Michigan Senate
After serving in the House, Erika Geiss was elected to the Michigan Senate. In 2019, she began representing the 6th District. Then, in 2023, she was elected to represent the 1st District. The Senate is a part of the state government that makes laws.
