Erle was once a small community in Yuba County, California. It was located about 6.25 miles (10 kilometers) north-northeast of Wheatland. This place was about 115 feet (35 meters) above sea level.
Even though it appeared on maps until 1910, Erle is no longer a separate town. Today, the area where Erle used to be is part of Beale Air Force Base.
What Was Erle?
Erle was a place where people once lived and worked. It was a small community that no longer exists as a separate town. We call places like Erle 'former settlements' because they were once populated but are now gone or absorbed into other areas.
A Glimpse into Erle's Past
Erle had its own post office for a while. It opened in 1892 and closed in 1909. The name "Erle" was chosen to honor a pioneer family who were important in the early days of the area.
