Ernest is a small town located in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 422 people lived there.

History of Ernest
A post office opened in Ernest in 1903. It stayed open until 1973. Ernest was the very first coal town started by the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company in Indiana County.
The town was originally called McKees Mills. But after Adrian Iselin, who was a main owner of the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal & Iron Company, visited the new mine, he decided to change the name. He renamed the town "Ernest" to honor his son, who was born in 1876.
