Ernesto Mayz Vallenilla (born September 3, 1925, in Maracaibo, Venezuela – died December 21, 2015) was a famous Venezuelan philosopher. A philosopher is someone who studies big questions about life, knowledge, values, and how the world works.
A Life of Learning
Ernesto Mayz Vallenilla went to high school in Caracas, Venezuela. He loved learning and continued his studies at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. In 1950, he earned degrees in both philosophy and literature. He also got his PhD in Philosophy from the same university. A PhD is a very high academic degree, showing deep knowledge in a subject. He even studied at universities in Germany, like Göttingen, Freiburg, and Munich.
Vallenilla became a professor at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Later, he was the first rector (like a president) and founder of Universidad Simón Bolívar. He is well-known for his ideas about "technical reasoning," which he wrote about in 1974.
In 2001, the Argentinian Philosophical Society called Vallenilla the most important Latin American philosopher of the 20th century. He also held the UNESCO Chair of Philosophy, which means he was recognized globally for his work in philosophy.
