A philosopher is someone who studies or is an expert in philosophy. The word "philosopher" comes from the Greek language. It literally means "friend of wisdom". Philosophers love to think deeply about life's big questions. They try to understand how the world works and what it means to be human.

What Do Philosophers Study?
Philosophers explore many different topics. They ask questions about knowledge, truth, values, and how we should live. They also think about what is real and what is not.
Famous Thinkers in History
Many famous people throughout history have been philosophers.
- Socrates was a very important Greek philosopher. He taught by asking many questions.
- Immanuel Kant was a well-known German philosopher. He wrote about how we gain knowledge.
- David Hume was a Scottish philosopher. He explored ideas about human nature and how we experience the world.
Big Questions Philosophers Ask
Philosophers often ask questions that make you think.
- One famous question is: "Is there anything we can be absolutely sure about?" This question makes us think about what is true.
- Another interesting question is: "Do we have free will?" This asks if we truly make our own choices or if everything is already decided.
These questions have been discussed for a very long time. Different philosophers have different answers to them.
