Erskine is a small, quiet place in Sherman County, Oregon. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that don't have their own local government, but are part of the larger county. You can find Erskine between the towns of Moro and Grass Valley, right along Erskine Road. It sits just west of U.S. Route 97, a major highway. Erskine is located about 2,162 feet (659 meters) above sea level.

The Story of Erskine

Erskine has had a few different names over the years! It was once known as Erskineville, Erskine Springs, and even Millra. The name Erskineville became official when a post office opened there in 1882. The very first postmaster, or person in charge of the post office, was named Abiel Erskine. This is likely how the community got its name.

When the Columbia Southern Railway built its train tracks through this area in 1900, they also called the place Erskineville. However, another railway company, the Union Pacific, later decided to shorten the name to just Erskine. The Erskineville post office eventually closed its doors in 1907. Today, if you look at maps, the name you will see for this community is Erskine.
