Ling Jiefang (Chinese: 凌解放) was a famous Chinese writer. He was born on November 3, 1945, and passed away on December 15, 2018. He was widely known by his pen name, Eryue He (Chinese: 二月河; literally "February River").
Eryue He was best known for writing exciting historical novels. These books told the stories of three powerful emperors from the Qing dynasty. These emperors were Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong. His popular books were even turned into award-winning television series.
He also served as the dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Zhengzhou University. He was a member of the China Writers Association.

About Ling Jiefang's Life
Ling Jiefang was born in Xiyang County, Shanxi province, China. His father, Ling Erwen, was a local leader. His mother, Ma Cuilan, was also involved in community work.
His family later moved to Nanyang, in Henan province, where they settled down. Ling Jiefang finished his high school education at Nanyang No. 3 High School.
Serving in the Army
After school, Ling Jiefang joined the People's Liberation Army. He served in the army for ten years, from 1968 to 1978. After his military service, he worked for the local government in Nanyang.
How He Started Writing
Ling Jiefang found his inspiration for writing about emperors from studying a very famous Chinese novel. This book was called Dream of the Red Chamber. It is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. He was even part of a group that studied this classic book in depth.
His Famous Historical Novels
Ling Jiefang started writing his first major novel in 1984. It was called The Great Kangxi Emperor. This book was the beginning of a series of historical fiction novels. He later wrote Yongzheng Emperor and Qianlong Emperor.
Stories of Emperors
These hugely popular books tell the stories of three generations of leaders. They ruled China during the Qing dynasty, which lasted from 1644 to 1911. The novels are full of exciting tales. They include stories about challenges, invasions, and rivalries among royal family members.
