History of Eschelbronn
Eschelbronn has a long history. It was first mentioned in old documents around the years 788 or 789. These documents came from a monastery called Lorsch. After that, we don't have much information until the late 1200s.
Early Days and Castle Building
In 1261, the first mayor of Eschelbronn was named Heinrich von Eschelbrunnen. A wooden castle was built in 1267. Later, in 1375, this wooden castle was rebuilt into a stronger stone castle surrounded by water.
Changes in Religion and Government
In 1526, the village became Protestant. This was a big change for the people living there. Much later, in 1803, Eschelbronn became part of a larger region called Baden. For many years, it was managed by different nearby towns. Today, it is part of the Rhein-Neckar area.
How People Made a Living
For a long time, most people in Eschelbronn were farmers. They grew crops and raised animals. In the 1700s, making textiles (like cloth) became more important. By the late 1800s, Eschelbronn became well-known for making furniture. This industry is still important there today.
