Eskdale (Scottish Gaelic: Eisgeadal) is a beautiful glen (which is a narrow valley) located in Scotland. It used to be a special area known as a "lordship" in the county of Dumfriesshire. The River Esk flows right through Eskdale. This river eventually reaches the estuary (where a river meets the sea) at the Solway Firth.
Imagine a huge snowstorm! In 1620, Eskdale experienced snow for 13 days without stopping. This was a very tough time for animals. Out of a massive flock of 20,000 sheep on Eskdale Moor, only 35 managed to survive.
